ASME B18.29.1-2010 pdf free download.Helical Coil Screw Thread Inserts- Free Running andScrew Locking (Inch Series).
1.4 class of Fit
Smce helical coil Inserts are flexible, the class of fit of the final eiiembly is a fun-hon of the sue of the tapped hole. Ilehcal coil STE taps are available for both tolerance Classes 213 and 313 tapped holes. Tolerance Class 213 tapped holes provide maximum production tolerances. but result in lower locking torques when rew kicking inserts are used. The higher and more consistent torques given in Table 5 are met Lw the ww kicking inserts when assembled and tested in tolerance Class 313 lapped holes m accordance with section 2.
1.5 Compatibility
Assembled helical coil inserts will mate properly with items having UN external thnada in accordance with ASME Bit. In addition, due to the radius on the crest od the instil at the minor diamtiir, the assembled insert will mate with UNJ profile external threaded parts with controlled radius root threads per SAE ASf4$79.
1.6 Types of Inserts
16.1 Free-Running 11w free-running insert provides a smooth. hard, and free-running thread
1.6.2 Screw-LockIng The screw-kicking insert provides a resilient locking thread produced by a woes of chords on one or more of the insert coilL
2 ST1 TAPPED HOLE
The tapped hole Into which the Insert is installed shall be in accordance with ASMF 131.1, except that diameters are larger to accommodate the wire cross-section of the insert. Dimensions of the STI tapped holes are shown in Table I and calculated per Note (3) of Table I
2,1 Screw Thread Designation
2.1.1 Designation for Tapped Hole. The drawing note for the Sfl threaded hole per Table 1 hi accept the helical coil insert shall be in accordance with the following example
EXAIbIJ’LF %.20 UNC-213 STI thread 0 41() pn.n. depth, per ASME l& 291.
2.1.2 Designation for a Helical Call Insert Designation of the helical cod insert on parts lists, spares lists. purchase orders. etc,, shall be in accordance with the following examples:
EXAMI’tES
(1) ASME BIL2.1. I2O UNC 0.373 kng heIsal coél
(2) AS%I1E BIS 29 1. 510-32 11SF 0 ISO long helical coil .crrw-kicking ins,t
2.1.3 Designation for S’Tl Ttweaded Hole Includmg Installed Hehcal Cod Insert. The drawing note (or the STI threaded hole per Table 1. having a helical coil insert installed, shall be in accordance wnh the following
FAMPlL
(1) UNC.flthri.adO(W)dwp
Z) ASME l*29.1. ‘i-20 UNC 0.375 Ions helacat coil h-rurw irert.
2.2 Gages and Gaging
Acceptance of the threaded hole is deirnmned by gaging with STIGO. NOTGO(lH). and plain cylindrical gages designed and applied tn accordance with System 2) of ASME Bl.3 (see onmandatorv Appendix C)
3 HELICAL COIL INSERT
3.1 Insert Material
Chemical composition of the userts is austerutic core rosion resistant (stainkss) steel within the limits of Table 2.
3.2 Properties
3.2.1 TensIle Strength %‘irr, before catting into inserts, shall have tensile strength not lower than I SO 000 psi, determined in accordance with ASTM A 370.
3.2.2 lending. Wire shall withstand, without crack. ing, bending in acconianee with ASIM E ZikI at rim temperature through an angle of l() dig around a diam“ter equal to twice the cross-sectional dimension of the wire in the pbnc of the bend
3.2.3 Wortmanship. The formed wire shall be of uniform quahtv and limper; smcoth, dcan. free from kinks, waviness, splits, cracks, laps, seams, scale. segregation, and other defects that may impair the sericeabllity of the insert
3.3 Coatings
3.3.1 Red Dye ldei*ification, Screw-locking inserts are dscd red (or identihcahon, The red dye may cornpletetv or partially cover the insert However, it must be sufficient to identify the insirt when it as installed in the tapped hole
3,3.2 Dry Film Lubqlcant Coating. When specified. dry film lubricant coating can be applied to helical coil inserts. It shall meet the requirements of para 3311 and para. 3322. Color of dry film lubricated insert is dark gray to black,
3.3.2.1 Dry F*m MaterI The lubricant shall meet the requirements of SAE AS5272, Type I.ASME B18.29.1 pdf download.
